The Environmental Fluid Dynamics faculty at Notre Dame address flow and transport problems related to environmental flows, such as atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers, small-scale turbulence and mixing processes, water supply and safety, hurricane environments, tsunami propagation, navigation, coastal and inland inundation, energy extraction and storage, urban and global air pollution, global climate change, groundwater pollution, CO2 sequestration, sediment transport, jet, wake and plume dynamics, stratified and rotating flow dynamics, wind-structure interaction, internal and inertial waves, wave-current interaction, air-sea interaction, urban sustainability, wind wave dynamics, sediment transport, forces on structures and architectural and urban fluid dynamics. We study these problems using experimental investigations, field measurements, and numerical and theoretical modeling.
