CFOs Gather at Notre Dame

More than 30 CFOs participated in roundtables and panel discussions examining timely business topics during the Notre Dame Chief Financial Officer Forum in October 2005. Of these CFOs, 24 were graduates of Notre Dame. Keynote speakers were Pat McCartan (’56), senior partner of Jones Day law firm, and Keith Sherin (’81), vice chairman and CFO of General Electric Co.

AIM Alumni Celebrate Fund Success

More than 200 Applied Investment Management (AIM) alumni from New York, San Francisco and Chicago as well as Romania, France and Lithuania returned to campus in June 2005 for a 10th anniversary reunion. At that time, about 480 students had completed the course that blends traditional investment theory with the practical experience of managing an actual portfolio in excess of $3.1 million. In his remarks during the event, University of Notre Dame Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and Finance Professor Scott Malpass (ND ’84) said that the student-run portfolio had appreciated over $2 million during the past 10 years.

Conference Draws Together Financial Executives

At the annual Financial Executive Alumni Conference, organized by Professor Jerry Langley, alumni from the financial services industry gather to network, learn about industry trends and reconnect with Mendoza faculty. Keynote speakers have included Jerry York, former CFO of IBM and Chrysler, Commerce Deputy Secretary David A. Sampson, and international equity investor Gary Brinson.

Alumni Giving

This past year, combined alumni gifts to the John Cardinal O’Hara Society and MBA Annual Fund rose by 70 percent, raising needed funding for student fellowships and faculty initiatives in the Mendoza College. The Corporate Partners program was also launched in 2007. This corporate giving program offers a number of opportunities for business organizations to interact with Mendoza students and faculty.

Tailgates, Reunions Draw Alumni to Campus

Before each home football game, alumni, faculty, staff and students gathered in the Naimoli Courtyard to relax with family and friends and catch up with classmates. In all, more than 5,000 people attended tailgate and reunion events during the 2006 season.
