MBA Program Scores High in Ethics Survey

Mendoza was one of three business schools to earn a top rating for ethics content in its MBA curriculum in a recent survey by the Academy of Management Learning and Education.

All 19 required courses in Mendoza’s MBA program integrate social impact and stewardship; three courses are wholly dedicated to ethics. Stand-alone and integrated courses serve complementary purposes, said Dean Carolyn Woo. “The former sharpens ethical analysis while the latter situates ethics in the midst of decision making, which fosters moral imagination, highlights the tradeoffs embedded in dilemmas and sensitizes students to the ethical dimension of problems,” she added.

Hesburgh Award for Ethics in Business

Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz’s concern for employee health benefits earned him the 2007 Theodore M. Hesburgh Award, which honors organizational leaders who integrate concerns for ethics and values in their business practices. In 2006, executives Robert B. Catell and Kenny Moore of natural gas distributor Keyspan received the award for their promotion of spirituality in the corporate culture. Recipients deliver the Cahill Lecture at the annual presentation.
