“We need to ask, ‘Is our research catering to a limited set of academic colleagues or are we providing information that gives perspective and sets new directions for accounting and finance practice?’
The professionals keep us honest. They keep us relevant.”
-Professor Peter Easton convenes conferences where academics and industry professionals probe contemporary valuation issues. |
New Center Bridges Accounting Theory and Practice
Founded in 2004, the Center for Accounting Research and Education, known as CARE, seeks to strengthen ties between accounting researchers, educators and practitioners. CARE, directed by Professor Peter Easton, supports current research and sponsors an annual conference providing a forum for doctoral candidates and national and international accounting faculty to interact and exchange ideas with accounting practitioners. Easton is editor of the Review of Accounting Studies, has served as associate editor of 11 leading accounting journals, publishes widely on corporate valuation and serves as an expert witness in the Delaware Chancery Court.
Conferences Probe Financial Statement Analysis and Evaluation
CARE sponsored two international conferences: the first in Braselton, Georgia in 2006; the second, in California’s Napa Valley in 2007. More than 100 university scholars and practitioners from North America, Europe and Asia gathered for each conference to explore contemporary valuation issues, such as trends in the debt market and short-selling practices.
The conferences are guided by an active advisory board, which includes senior faculty, investment professionals and editors from three of the top four accounting journals.
