ACADEMIC CENTERS
CENTER FOR US - JAPANESE STUDIES

The Notre Dame Center for United States-Japanese Business Studies was established in the fall of 1993 as a part of an institutional effort of the University to raise global awareness of Japan and Pacific Asia (East and Southeast Asia on the Pacific Rim) and to introduce a new emphasis on internationalism in teaching, research and service.

The Center thus far has chosen to emphasize experiential student learning by offering opportunities for internships in business firms mostly in Japan, primarily for Master of Business Administration students during the summer, between the first and second year of their study at Notre Dame. Other ongoing Center activities include the following:

  • Courses being offered regularly in the current academic year:
Language and Culture in Japanese Workplace
    Working with Japanese Business
Selected Topics in Japanese Business and Management

  • Summer Internships in Japan Program” since 1992. Several all-expense-and-stipend-paid internships for two months in some of the leading business firms in Japan for Notre Dame MBA students.

  • An intensive three-week-long executive education program for young business managers from Japan in “Global Human Resource Development,” held annually since 1997 in early summer on the Notre Dame campus, in cooperation with Chubu Sangyo Renmei (Central Japan Industries Association with its headquarters in Nagoya, Japan) with some 2000 member firms.

  • Occasional sponsoring of symposia, lectures and films on Japanese culture, society and business.

  • In-depth presentation and/or customized consultation services on select U.S.-Japanese business and management topics/issues on special arrangement basis.
