Call No. and Location Information

Table of Contents

Catalog the book for Medieval Institute if:
--Call number is B720 through B765
--Call number is ND2889 through ND3416
--Call number is PA8001 through PA8595
--Item is by or about Thomas Aquinas

Items belonging in the Rare Book Coll.

Items published in and before 1830 belong in the Rare Book Collection. Do not process such items. Instead, place them on the Special Coll. shelf, with a note "Pre-1831 publication."

Note: If the item has been designated for the Medieval Institute, then it should be submitted to Marina Smyth to decide whether or not the Institute will opt to keep it there or pass it on to Special Collections.

Music

All items classed in M, ML, or MT are cataloged for Music
(HESB MUS, HESB MUSRF or HESB ONEIL). Place all books with M, ML, and MT call nos. on the Music Librarian's shelf.

Routing of records with call no. problems

Route to Z Truck (mark "Call number completion" shelf (item process status=CN) on Routing Form) when:

--050 has Z ________ |a [alternative call number]
--050 has PZ1-4 ____ |a [alternative call number]
--050 has _______ v. |a [alternative call number] (class tog. no.)

Route to Z Truck (mark "Needs LC call no." (item process status=CN) on Routing Form) when:

--No 050 or 090 in record
--050 has "LAW"
--090 has wording "Non-LC" after call number
--090 has a class together call number, and there is no series on the piece, or, if there is a series, it is classed separately at ND
--090 has a Cutter with lower-case letter(s) after the number portion. For example: W873po.

  • (Note that lower-case letters after the date in the call number are OK (e.g. 1984a, 1900z, 1993b)
  • (Also note that an 'x' after a Cutter should be deleted; e.g. change .W38x to .W38)
--050 or 090 has only PZ1-4 with no alternative call number

If a call number consists of "K" followed by a Cutter, route it to the Z truck (mark "Needs LC call no." (item process status=CN) on Routing Form). Example: K .C354.

Treatment of Z call numbers

OK
NOT OK
Z4-Z4980 Z5051-Z6525
Z6601-Z6625 Z6651-Z8999

Route an item with a Z call number in the Not OK column to the Z truck (mark "Needs LC call no." (item process status=CN) on Routing Form)

If more than one item is checked on the Routing Form, the item status in the item form should be set to the code for the first item checked.

Routing UKM records

When 040=UKM |c UKM or 040=UKM |c [member library, not DLC], route to Z Truck, even if there is an LC call number, as name authorities need to be checked. Mark "UKM" (item process status=UK) on Routing Form.

However, 040=UKM |c DLC does not need to be routed to the Z truck.
