Two pop pads have been created in Aleph to provide access to diacritics and special characters. You should
have shortcuts to both pop pads on your desktop. If not, see your DCC.
Note that some signs, symbols, etc. cannot be handled in Aleph or other systems. For instructions on how to
handle the following, see LCRI 1.0E. Language and script of the description in Cataloger's Desktop:
Super/subscript characters
Greek letters
Special marks of contraction (e.g. older printed Latin)
Special letters, diacritical marks, punctuation marks
Signs and symbols
- To open your diacritics pop pad, double click on the shortcut to AlephKey on your desktop
- To input a diacritic into a bib, authority, or holdings record, click on the diacritic on the pop pad
- Make sure your cursor is in front of the letter the diacritic is to modify
- Press CTRL + V together to copy the diacritic.
Notes:
- All diacritics found on the OCLC ALA character menu are available on keyboards A and B. The less
common ones (double acute, double tilde, upadhmaniya, musical flat and sharp, subscripts, etc.) are found on Keyboard B.
- If you aren't sure whether a particular diacritic on the pop pad is the one you want, check the diacritic
reference below. The reference is organized by rows.
