St. Casmir's

Hello fellow C.A.S.H. members :)

My name is Sara Urben and I am working with an engineering professor, Dave Kirkner, on a program for hispanic adults who want to take their GED exam. The classes are taught at St. Casmir's on the west side.

Since August, Professor Kirkner has been teaching these classes (which focus mostly on mathematics) on Saturday mornings. However, he is almost done teaching the math concepts and thinks that it might be beneficial to begin some sort of one on one tutoring system at a central location such as la casa de amistad. The classes are taught in spanish but Professor Kirkner tells me that many of them have a pretty good grasp on English. He himself was worried that he didn't know spanish well enough but he has managed just fine.

So...if you would be interested in tutoring please e-mail me at surben@nd.edu as soon as possible. They have a GED preparation book that they work out of and you would basically just be answering their questions.

I taught ESL classes at la casa last year and it was such a rewarding experience! Don't hesitate to e-mail or call me with any questions. Thanks so much and have a good day!

DAYS & TIMES
Friday 6-9 PM, ESL and Math classes (meet at 6:30)
Saturday 9:30-11:30, GED prep classes ( meet at 8:45)

Other times might open up as they expand their programs but this is what we have for now. We can give rides if transportation is needed. This is a great oppurtunity to improve your spanish!!
