The supplementary major in Asian Studies emphasizes the study of Asia as an integral part of the world today. Students study
both its history and current aspects of culture, society, politics, literature, language, religion, etc. Required classes stress
an interdisciplinary perspective through cross-listed classes found throughout Notre Dame.

Through the interdisciplinary nature of the major, classes draw from a broad range of topics, enabling the student to come away with a holistic and comprehensive study of Asia , including both humanistic and social scientific approaches to study of Asia.
Finally, the program culminates in the senior year with a capstone essay on a student-chosen topic and advised by a faculty member. The curriculum requires 26 credit hours in addition to one year of language study.
Requirements:
- One year of study of an Asian Language (10 credit hours)
- Asia-related courses from each of the following disciplines: (Total of 23 credit hours)
- At least one semester of an Asian language beyond the first year (5 credit hours)
- 1 Social Science (Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology) (3 credit hours)
- 1 Humanities (Theology, Philosophy, or English) (3 credit hours)
- 1 History: One class in Ancient, Early, or Modern History (3 credit hours)
- 1 Literature (3 credit hours)
- 2 General Electives (Fine Arts highly recommended) (6 credit hours)
- Capstone Essay written during the Senior Year (3 credit hours)
