Karma @ Notre Dame

Karma is, "a toolkit for interprocess communications, authentication, encryption, graphics display, user interface and manipulating the Karma network data structure." It has many useful graphical features of interest to astronomers for whom it was written. The currently installed version is 1.7.12 and runs only on Solaris.

How to Use Karma

You will have access to Karma after you source the astro.csh file in your .cshrc file. Probably the two most useful programs are "kvis" (formerly "kview") and "krenzo". Here is a snapshot of Kvis.

Common Problems

If kvis crashes or complains about not having enough colors upon startup, you can give it its own private colormap using "kvis -private_cmap".
