Book/Access Code Information
We will cover material from the book;
Buying a hard copy of the book for this course is optional. You may prefer to use just an e-book, or an e-book and a used (old or new edition of the book). It is advisable to register for online homework (see below) to preview the e-book and attached media files before you make your decision on what to purchase.
When making your decision, you should take into consideration whether you will take Calculus II next semester. If so you should consider purchasing the EWA(online homework) access for multiple semesters, since we will use the same online homework system next semester.
In our class, we will use the online homework system Enhanced WebAssign (EWA). Instructions for registration for online homework are given in Homework/Registration Information. Under the instructions for registration, you will find your class key. You can register any time after Tuesday August 23. You will have a grace period to work on your homework and view the e-book ending on Sept. 05 2010. After that date, You will need to purchase an Enhanced WebAssign access code in order to continue taking homework.
Option for Purcahsing a Book/Access Code
There are several options available for purchasing a Book/Access Code. It is possible to purchase:
a new book and access code bundle (option 1 below)
a stand alone access code with the e-book (options 2 and 3 below)
Note that the stand alone access code can be complemented with a hard copy of the book. Since little other than the numbering of sections and homework has changed in recent editions of the book, an old edition will suffice.
Note: An access code can only be used by the same user throughout its lifetime. It cannot be purchased secondhand. See the Webassign Access code info page for refund policies.
1. $243: Stewart Single Variable Calculus 7th Edition WITH EWA printed access card (multiple terms with E-book) = ISBN 9781111697686 : This option available at the bookstore for $243. Along with a new copy of the book, it gives you access to the e-book and homework for this semester and all future semesters in which you might use it.The homework access will also be valid for Calculus II next semester and the book for Calculus II will be the same. The Notre Dame bookstore information is shown below. It says that the text is required but this is wrong. You can just purchase the e-book online.

2.$75: Single-Term access to e-book and homework: This option is second on the list when purchasing online ($75) : This gives you access to the e-book and online homework for one semester only. This option may be complemented with a second hand book (old or new edition) if you feel that you need a hard copy of the book. If you are intending to take Calculus II for next semester, Options 1 or 3 are better options.
3. $110 : Lifetime of Edition Access to homework and e-book. This option is the first option on the list when purchasing online ($110). It gives you access to online homework and the e-book for this semester and all future semesters in which you might use it. This option will also be valid for Calculus II next semester.
Online Purchase (options 2 and 3)(requires Credit card)
Options 2 and 3 can also be purchased directly from your WebAssign homepage after you register for online homework, with a credit card.
If you click on the link to Purchase the access code or e-book, you will see a list of your options with prices similar to the one shown below.

If you do not have a credit card and you wish to purchase a standalone access code, you can order one through the bookstore.
The ISBN number for a multisemester access code is
