We hope that your summer has been both productive and enjoyable. Now that the fall semester is here, it is time once again to begin preparations for the 23rd Annual Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student Conference. This year, the conference will be held on Monday, August 24th. As with conferences in the past, the day will be filled with presentations and poster sessions from students in all areas of departmental research. Lunch will be provided to graduate students and faculty, and a group photograph will also be taken.
The conference will consist of three types of presentations:
- Oral presentations,
- Poster presentations, and
- Lab/Experiment Tour
- The oral presentations with focus on individual research. They will be made by all second and third year students. The presentations should be 10-12 minutes in length with 3-5 minutes for questions.
- Senior graduate students (fifth, sixth, and seventh year) will present their research at the poster session.
- Fourth year students have a choice. They may do an oral presentation, make a poster, or run a lab tour. The choice must be made by Tuesday, August 18th (11:59pm) and sent to amegsdo@nd.edu otherwise the student will be required to make a poster.
- Tours: fourth year students may apply to give a short (~10-20 minutes) tour of their lab and experimental setup. Demonstrations of numerical simulations can be done as a tour, and the presentation room in the OIT building may be utilized to this effect. There are a limited number of slots available for the tours. Acceptance is subject to the conference planners and will depend on building location (Fitz, Hessert, MRB, White Field). You will be notified in advance if you will be giving a tour.
- First year students are only required to attend the conference; however, if they wish to present results either from summer research or research conducted as an undergraduate, they may do so, and must send an e-mail to amegsdo@nd.edu by Tuesday, August 18th.
- Finally, senior students (fifth year and beyond) will be asked to serve as room chairs for the individual research presentations.
