Manufacturing Laboratory

The Manufacturing Laboratory is co-directed by Timothy C. Ovaert and Steven R. Schmid and located in 903 square feet of space. Major equipment includes a custom-designed controlled environment 1.5 kW turning (lathe) station capable of machining high-performance metals such as titanium and other alloys in vacuum or other gaseous mixtures, with cutting force measurement capabilities; an investment/vacuum caster; a Wabash compression molding press; a Branson 900 series ultrasonic welder; an SPI Lasers 60 Watt laser system for laser machining and welding; and a diamond wafer saw.
