I am organizing a course, AME 53591, Engineering Seminar Series, which
is open to all AME undergraduates. The course is one credit, non-degree
and pass/fail. (A "non-degree" course appears on your transcript and
you receive academic credit for it; however, you can not use it to count
toward the overall number of credits needed for your degree, e.g., you
can't combine it with two credits of research to satisfy a tech
elective). The course will basically require you to attend one academic seminar per
week during the semester and submit a short (less than one page) summary
of each seminar you attend. I haven't finalized the details yet, but
the requirements will be something along the lines of:1) the seminars you attend must be regular academic seminars;
2) at least 1/4 of them must be AME seminars; and,
3) at least 1/4 of them must be outside of AME.If you are interested in registering for this course, please contact me.
If there is sufficient interest, I will hold the course and will have an
organizational meeting next Monday at 12:50 in my office (367
Fitzpatrick). Please send an email to me (bill@controls.ame.nd.edu) if
you plan to register and/or attend the organizational meeting. I am
open to input on how the course should be organized. The motivating
factor behind it is to increase undergraduate participation in the broader intellectual environment at NDBill Goodwine, Associate Professor
Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering
University of Notre Dame
