This is a reminder that seniors who are planning to write an undergraduate thesis should follow the rules below. Others who have substantial research results so far should also seriously consider writing a thesis; it is not too late to decide. Additional information is in:
from which I have taken the paragraphs below.
AME Senior Thesis Program - Any undergraduate in the AE or ME program can write a thesis based on research that has been supervised by a faculty member. Permission from the Director of Undergraduate Studies is needed. Completion of the thesis requirements will be recognized by a certificate at graduation.
Procedure for Thesis
The student will be reponsible for the formation of an examining committee and must do so at least 30 days before the end of the semester in which he/she is planning to graduate. The examining committee will consiste of three members - the advisory and two other AME faculty of the student's choice. The student will acquire signatures from all the members of the committee on a committee selection form supplied by the Department on which the committee members agree to read the thesis and participate in the examination. The student will be responsible for scheduling a time for the examination and the Department will secure the site. The student will provide the committee members with a copy of the thesis at least one week before the examination which must be held before the period of normally scheduled final exams. The advisor will notify the Department Chair of the result of the examination and complete the necessary forms.
