To: AME Students From: Dr. Mihir Sen Date: 11/30/05 I would like to remind you of the following. You may be interested, in which case you may not want to miss the deadlines.
1. GRADUATE STUDY: We have collected observations from some AME alumni who have gone on to graduate school in engineering. Each case is of course different, but those of you who are considering graduate school as a possibility may want to look at these messages, and benefit from their experiences.
They have all said that they would entertain questions from you, so feel free to write to them. If you want, I can help any of the seniors with applications (which have to be completed fairly soon).
2. INTERNSHIPS: Those who are interested in internships next summer should start to think about it now. There is information on the Web (for instance google "internship summer" or similar keywords). There is also some information on our departmental Website at
In addition you can make use of University resources. Many of the possibilities, however, involve due dates for applications coming up and you don't want to miss them.
3. REU: Some of you may be interested in working on research next summer in a university, National Laboratory, or other institution. There are programs in many universities called REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) typically funded by the Federal Government through a Department (such as the Department of Energy which runs the National Labs) or agency. For example, NSF (National Science Foundation) has a Website
which lists those programs that they fund. I have found others by searching on the Web. There are also some posters in front of the AME Office.
