Dear AME student in the class of 2006,
A somewhat unanticipated issue has been brought to my attention and as it will affect your academic program planning, I ask that you read the following and consider its influence on your program.
Due to a number of ongoing curriculum changes in AME, one of the recommendations in the normal course sequencing for the Class of 2006 was for you to take AME439 Heat Transfer in the spring of your junior year - Spring 2005. As it turns out, due to the suggested sequencing in their program the members of the Class of 2005 were advised to take the same course in the spring of their senior year - also Spring 2005. So you might now see part of the problem.
As all the seniors who need the course must take it next spring to graduate, they will be given first access to the class. Since it only serves as a pre-requisite for a couple of our upper-level electives, it is not imperative that you take the class next semester, Spring 2005, and some of you will not be able to do so due to realistic enrollment limits that we will need to place on the course.
If you had planned on taking AME439 Heat Transfer next semester and are unable to register for it because it is full, you should then select another course to allow you to move forward in your program, this could be an elective or university requirement, but you do want to make sure you do take a course to continue to make progress.
As this was an unanticipated problem, I expect that we will offer a section of AME439 next fall (Fall 2005) for those in the Class of 2006 who are not able to take it this upcoming spring and thus eliminate a similar problem next spring. I encourage you to review your scheduling plans and consider what is best for your program. If you have any questions you can contact me or your academic advisor.
Regards,
S. Batill
