Re: Final Examination Schedule
The Academic Code 14.2 states: "No student shall be required to take
three or more final examinations in one day or four or more final
examinations in a 24-hour period." The academic guide requires that a
student petition the College of Engineering Director of Academic Affairs
at least seven days before the start of finals.
It is ultimately your responsibility to ensure your final examination
schedule conforms to these rules. Even if an instructor for a course
seems to be working on resolving the situation, if alternative
arrangements have not been finalized seven days before the start of
finals then you should file a petition. If you do not do this, then
there is a risk that the alternative plans do not materialize, and at
that point there is not anything you can do about it. If you file the
petition, then the college, at the administrative level, will work to
resolve the situation for you.
As a final note, the "4 exams in 24 hours" rule means that all four
exams must be completed in the 24 hour period. For example, if the
first exam starts at 10:30 on one day and the fourth one starts at 10:30
the next day, that would be 4 exams in 26 hours, not 4 exams in 24
hours.
