I am a 1984' ND graduate and the founder and President of Carson Optical in Hauppauge NY.As a consumer products company that specialized in optical goods (binoculars, magnifiers, and optical toys), we are searching for an intern that will help us to design/develop new products. The ideal candidate should have some experience with CAD design software, and an appreciation for ergonomics and product design. Most importantly, we need a creative person that can think outside-the-box...On the first day of this internship, we will provide the intern with some basics about the types of products that we are trying to develop, and it would be up to this person to research the product category and try to build a better mouse trap... Carson's manufacturer's a broad range of products, so in addition to "mechanical design", these projects might also involve materials engineering (fabrics, plastics, metals, etc), optical properties and coatings, patent research, etc. We are not looking to hire an expert in all of the aforementioned fields. However, we do require that the intern be willing to pick up the phone and find answers to a engineering problem, even when it is an area that they know nothing about. Being able to solve a problem or find an answer is much more critical to this position than knowing the answer at the outset. We are largely a marketing company, so being able to understand what the consumer wants and integrating that into product design is critical.I would prefer to hire someone finishing their Junior Year (or later), but I am flexible. Pay would be approximately $700 per week. My direct contact info is below. You are welcome to "post it" or pass it on directly to the students.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Rich CameronRichard Cameron
