Markets
Private Public Internet
Spring 2004

Can the internet replace physical markets as the primary medium for commerce?

(We define a physical market as a place where one has to physically be present in order to make a purchase)

Why is this question important?
Economic Statistics of the Internet

Just how safe is the internet with hackers being able to infiltrate supposedly secure data banks? How should the internet be regulated and by whom? Also how will the internet affect inovation? Will the super efficiency of the internet allow information to be shared instantaneously, or will too much information sharing discurage people from making new products because they cannot make money on them? Many questions are left unsolved, but our group will try to shed light on each side of these questions. With this knowledge, you should be able to take your own stance on the issue of whether internet markets can become the primary means on buying that which we need.
