Desmond Kon, '09

Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingde worked as a newspaper and magazine journalist in Singapore. He has written features on Madonna, Björk and Morgan Freeman, among other personalities. Trained in book publishing at Stanford University, he has edited thirteen books and executive-produced three audio books, some pro bono for non-profit organisations including Riding For the Disabled Association, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and Sok Sabay Cambodia. Holding a B.A (Sociology/Media Studies) from the National University of Singapore and an M.T.S (World Religions) from Harvard University, Desmond also lectured at Ngee Ann Film & Media School for seven years. His poetry anthologies include For the Love of God, which was launched and exhibited at the Prague International Poetry Festival. Desmond's poetry and criticism have been published in literary journals such as Gulf Coast, Confrontation, Portland Review, Pinch, Café Irreal, Dirty Goat and Xavier Review, among others. He has interdisciplinary interests in comparative mysticism, negative poetics and queer theology.
