Emily DiFilippo, '10

Emily DiFilippo hails from the historic town of St. Charles, the first state capitol of Missouri, actual starting point for the Lewis & Clark Expedition and resting place of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. For the past few years, she has had the honor of educating our region’s young people at St. Dominic High School.
In 2004, Emily received a teaching fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Spanish at Washington University in St. Louis. During this time, she developed interest in gender studies, Golden Age Spanish theater and the 19th-century Spanish novel. She earned her M.A. in December of 2005.
Emily also completed her B.A. at Wash University, graduating magna cum laude in 2003 with a double major in English and Spanish, as well as a Writing minor. In addition to teaching Spanish at the high school level, she has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Missouri, St. Louis and St. Louis Community College at Meramec.
In summer of 2007, Emily had the privilege of studying under Professor James Alan McPherson at the University of Iowa Summer Writers’ Workshop. Her work “Purgatory” won First Place in the 2007 St. Louis Writers’ Guild Short Story Contest.
