These instructions are provided primarily as a reference for ALCO staff and contractors. We also recognize that some faculty and staff may wish to attempt to migrate themselves to Entourage for mail and calendaring without additional assistance.
ALCO Staff and contractors are ready to assist you. If you would like to schedule a migration appointment, please call Darlene Mikulak at 1-8858.
For an integrated e-mail and calendaring experience, the Arts and Letters Dean’s Office recommends using Entourage 2008.
1) Run the “OfficeInstall.command” file found on the disk image.
-- installs Office 2008, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Entourage
-- runs the 12.1.0 and 12.1.5 updaters to bring the Office 2008 installation up-to-date (as of this writing)
NOTE: See the "READ ME.pdf" file on the disk image for detailed instructions about configuring Entourage for use with Exchange. These instructions are also duplilcated below.
2) (RECOMMENDED) Remove your Office 2004 icons from your dock and add the Office 2008 icons in their place.
3) Launch “Microsoft Entourage” from inside “Applications --> Microsoft Office 2008 --> Microsoft Entourage”.
4) This will automatically launch the “Microsoft Setup Assistant” and will quit Entourage.
5) Fill out the required fields and any optional fields in the “Microsoft Setup Assistant”. When you have finished, re-launch “Microsoft Entourage”.
6) Run the “ND Entourage Exchange Setup” script from the disk image.
-- configures your Exchange account for e-mail and calendaring
-- this does a lot of the hard work automatically for you
7) (RECOMMENDED) Check “Entourage --> Preferences ... --> Mail & News Preferences --> Compose --> Automatically check names when sending messages”.
8) If you currently use Eudora for e-mail ...
NOTE: (Why, you may ask, is it necessary to import from Eudora to Mail.app and then again from Mail.app to Entourage as shown in the instructions below? The reason is that Entourage does not correctly import all messages and attachments. If you want to keep the links between your messages and their attachments, you must perform this two-step conversion.)
| OS 10.4 “Tiger” | OS 10.5 “Leopard” |
|---|---|
| Use the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” tool found on the disk image to convert your Eudora information (mailboxes and contacts) into “OS X Mail.app” and the “OS X Address Book”. To use this tool, find your “Eudora Folder” (usually found in your home folder --> Documents --> Eudora Folder) and drag it onto the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” application found inside the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” folder. | From within Mail.app, import your local mailboxes using “File --> Import ...” and browsing to your “Eudora Folder”.
Then use the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” tool found on the disk image to convert your Eudora contacts (NOT mailboxes) into the “OS X Address Book”. To use this tool, find your “Eudora Folder” (usually found in your home folder --> Documents --> Eudora Folder) and drag it onto the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” application found inside the “Eudora Mailbox Cleaner” folder. |
| Use Scott’s “Eudora Nicks Converter” tool found on the disk image to clean the newly imported addresses in your Address Book. | |
9) If you currently use “Mail.app” for e-mail and wish to use “Microsoft Entourage” as your e-mail client OR if you are working your way from Eudora (above) to Entourage ...
10) While in the “Contacts” section of Entourage, highlight the “Exchange Contacts” item.
11) Check “Entourage --> Preferences ... --> General Preferences --> Sync Services --> Synchronize Contacts with Address Book and .Mac”
-- After clicking “OK”, the “Synchronization Options” window appears. Choose “Combine information” and click “OK”.
