E-mail Questions
For most people, the Exchange e-mail migration that happened on December 2, 3, & 4, 2008 should have been completely transparent. Some people experienced a few problems. Here is a quick list of known problems and their solutions.
If you use ...
- ... a Mac ...
- ... either a PC or a Mac and run Thunderbird and are configured for IMAP, you need to change your Incoming Mail Server settings from “imap.nd.edu” to “imap-alt.nd.edu”. For most PC users, we have fixed this automatically.
- ... a PC and run Outlook ...
- ... odds are good that Outlook is now configured to check mail as an Exchange client (instead of POP or IMAP). You must now login with “netid@nd.edu” instead of just “netid” as your username.
- ... outgoing mail is now stored in the “Sent Items” mailbox. Your old sent mail should still remain in its old location (usually Sent or Outbox) but all new outgoing mail is now in the “Sent Items” mailbox.
- ... your old Contacts are now stored in “Personal Contacts”.
- ... if your “Personal Folders” are not showing up, please let us know. They are not gone but you'll need help from ALCO to make them visible again. Please call us at 1-7021 so we can get a case started for you.
- ... if you check mail for a departmental account and you no longer see the departmental account's mailboxes or messages, please let us know. They are not gone but you'll need help from ALCO to make them visible again. Please call us at 1-7021 so we can get a case started for you.
