The Great Pond Adventure

Phase 2

We cleaned out the site for the pond with our trusty chain saw and lots of raking and shoveling up debris. For years, we'd just dumped yard waste back there and it was all coming back to haunt us. Finally though, we were ready to dig. As a Mother's Day gift, the kids helped us start.

The beginning! Ed's working on leveling the area while Meg (left), Kari and Dave watch.
Still some watchers, but Kari's got the big clippers. Watch out, world!
Nothing like digging a big hole to bring sisters closer together.
I think about this point we were noticing just how much dirt we were going to have to move. And why was it always 90 degrees when we were going to do it?
After a week or two of digging, here's the hole we ended up with. It's hard to tell just how big it is, but that dark blue thing in the back right is a wheelbarrow.
Here's the view from through the arbor. Things got greener, didn't they?
