Information and Communication Subcommittee
The goal of the Information and Communication Subcommittee of
AIChE's Women's Initiatives Committee is to provide the membership
with information about the participation of women in the society and
the
profession and on resources within AIChE and elsewhere that may be of
benefit to women in their professional development. The main project
of this subcommittee is the development and maintenance of the AIChE
WIC webpage. The webpage will provide information on the various
activities of WIC, as well as basic information about women in
chemical engineering.
Networking Subcommittee
The goal of the Networking Subcommittee is to facilitate exchange of
information among women chemical engineers. Initially this will be done by
1. Having a women's reception at the annual meeting. We are looking for
corporate sponsorship to fund the reception.
2. Setting up a listserv of AIChE members interested in exchanging e-mail
on
women's activities within AIChE and about various women's issues. The
listserv will be available in late 1998 or early 1999.
Outreach Subcommittee
The Outreach Subcommittee of the Women's Initiatives Committee has two
major goals:
To plan and implement programming at the Institute's two national
meetings; and
To identify and create opportunities for women to mentor potential
and practicing chemical engineers.
Visibility Subcommittee
The goal of the Visibility Subcommittee of AIChE's Women's Initiatives
Committee is to increase the awareness and recognition of women in the
Institute and the profession. To do this, we will profile women chemical
engineers in website forums and AIChExtra articles; we will work to
increase women's representation as AIChE Fellows and as award recipients,
expand their participation in the speakers' bureau, and collaborate with
other organizations in promoting women's interests. Currently, the most
active project of this subcommittee is to research, select, and nominate
potential AIChE Fellows, as only 2 of the 905 Fellows are women.
