Post-Soviet Russian Cinema
"Taxi Blues"
(USSR and France, 1990)
Pavel Lounguine's first feature is a critique of contemporary Soviet society, captured through the bleak and paternalistic relationship of a hard-drinking, fascist, anti-Semitic taxi driver and a dependent, alcoholic Jewish saxophonist. A French / Soviet co-production with excellent lead performances by Piotr Mamonov and Piotr Zaitchenko.
