S20 High Resolution Grid of Southern Louisiana
Hugh Roberts completed the new S20 grid. The previous grid, S08, contained roughly 314,000 nodes, while the new grid has nearly 2,700,000 nodes. Much of the resolution added in the new grid was in the form of better resolved rivers and channels, and the addition of many levees and elevated roadways based on LIDAR data. Node spacings in the grid range from 20 m to 25 km. The fly over below shows the grid contours starting over the gulf and ending with a flight up the Mississippi, past New Orleans, and ending in western Louisiana. This grid will be used in hurricane storm surge modeling for Louisiana.
