African American Scholars at Notre Dame
July 6-12, 2008

Online Application no Longer Available

Through a series of presentations, discussions, and experiences, this seminar will offer outstanding young Catholic African American high school students the opportunity to explore the rich historical, political and spiritual legacy of  African American leadership and to enhance their own leadership abilities during one week on the Notre Dame campus.  Based on the legacies of African Americans in civil rights, politics, and religion, the seminar seeks to educate and empower participants to produce viable strategies for leadership, and visions of change in their future.  Academic experiences are complemented by time for spiritual reflection, personal development, and recreation.

All program expenses including round trip transportation to the campus are covered by the University.  If selected, the only expense to the student is a $150 non-refundable confirmation fee.

The Scholars seminar will provide a complete Notre Dame experience.  Students will stay in campus residence halls and have access to virtually all the same academic, recreational, and spiritual resources as traditional undergraduate students.  One college credit will be offered to all participants upon completion of the program.

We are members of the global community. We are of African heritage. Our common goal is to eradicate cultural barriers and to abolish ignorance in order to preserve the world for future generations. We must continually cultivate the mind, and, as intellectuals, we are ever vigilant and committed to holding ourselves accountable to these principles.
