Pope Benedict's Encyclical Deus Caritas Est

Course Work

  1. Spring 2006: Students read and discussed the encylical in juxtaposition with Epictetus' Encheiridion in order to highlight, in Pope Benedict's footsteps, the link between ancient ethics and philosophy and Christianity, and also to show the novelty and distinctness of Christian love in the ancient world and in our own world.
  2. Spring 2007: The encyclical was studied in an honors humanities course.
  3. Lent 2007: Father Jenkins taught a seminar about the encyclical on Sundays before Vespers.
