DRIVER TRAINING INFORMATION
Students driving University vehicles are first required to attend a safe driving class sponsored by the Transportation Services Department. Students need only attend this session once during their time at Notre Dame.
Employees who spend the majority of their professional time driving a University vehicle must attend a safe driving class sponsored by Transportation Services within a reasonable period of time after they are hired. All employees who drive University vehicles are encouraged to attend a safe driving class every three years.
Classes are held on Tuesday's at 10:30 am and Thursday's at 3:00pm.
If you are unable to attend a class at this time call Transportation Services to see if an alternate time can be arranged.
Transportation Services now offers the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course.
Check out scheduled class dates in the Safety section of this website.
Training will be held from 8:00am - Noon in the Maintenance Building Seminar Room.
For information about Drivers Training and to request an appointment to attend a session, please call Denny Navarre at 631-4545.

USE OF 15 PASSENGER VANS
Because of the propensity of 15 passenger vans to roll over when fully loaded, the University prohibits the use of vans carrying 15 passengers. No 15 passenger van may be purchased, leased, or rented for University business. Currently owned University 15 passenger vans with the 2 rear seats removed may be used on a limited basis.
See Transportation Services for complete details.

IDEM COMPLIANCE
The University of Notre Dame is required to comply with the IDEM (Indiana Department of Environmental Management) Stormwater Rule 13 regulations.
Transportation Services uses Best Management Practices such as:
*Use of commercial car wash facilities for 95% of University vehicle washing.
*On-site vehicle washing and snow/ice runoff enters floor drains and goes through an oil/water seperator, then is pumped into the sanitary system.
*Transportation Services inspects University vehicles on a regular basis to ensure that fluid leaks are repaired in a timely manner.
*Recycling of tires, batteries and waste oils is managed by using approved disposal vendors.
*The University operates gasoline and diesel pumps on campus. Fuel is stored in regulated underground tanks. If a spill should occur, procedures are to immediately contact the University Fire Department and then contact the University's Risk Management Department to ensure proper clean up and disposal.
*Transportation Services has an above ground bulk oil tank that has a "spill protection wall".
*Transportation Services will review on an annual basis the procedures we perform, how they are performed, and if we can perform them in a better way.
