Nickname:
The Men of St. Edward's Hall have no formal nickname, although they
are commonly referred to as Gentlemen or Stedsmen (or as the ladies call
them "Steds").
Signature
Event: Founder's Day and Founder's Week - Founder's Day is celebrated
on October 13th, the feast day of St. Edward, the patron saint of
University's founder, Edward Sorin. Each year Stedsmen celebrate
"Founder's Day" with a
2 on 2 basketball tournament, a special dorm mass, a historical lecture, a
formal dinner in South Dining Hall and other festivities.
Recreational
Facilities: Behind St. Ed's is a basketball court featuring a green
key with a gold crown. The first floor lounge has a big screen TV,
air hockey, and foosball. The 4th floor lounge has a pool table, and
the world's oldest big screen TV.

you know?:
- St. Ed's is the only residence hall on the national registry of
historic places.
- A fire in 1980 damaged the third and fourth floors.
- St. Ed's is renowned for its high ceilings and intricate loft
designs that demonstrate the engineering skill of Sted's civil engineering
majors.
- Knute Rockne received his first holy communion in the Chapel of St.
Edward the Confessor (2nd floor).
- Stedsmen
traditionally provide student ushers for the football pep rallies in the
fall.
- Notable alumni include Heisman Trophy winner "Golden Boy" Paul Hornung and
talk show host Phil Donahue.
- Numerous rooms have a view of the Dome.
- In 1997, the men of St. Ed's started a tradition of wearing kilts to
football pep rallies. Often copied by other male designated dorms,
the Administration has now granted exclusive shirtless-kilt wearing
privileges to St. Ed's.
-St. Edward is often portrayed holding Westminster Abbey Church. However,
the statue of St. Edward in front of the dorm, displays him holding the
Notre Dame Basilica.
