Ergonomics
The Risk Management and Safety Department offers ergonomic assessments for university faculty and staff. The focus with this ergonomic assessment program is to minimize discomforts, avoid loss time and productivity problems and to help lower overall losses for the university. Most commonly, assessments are performed by discussing the specific problems an individual is experiencing followed by an observation of the interface between you and your computer, desk, phone, etc. After we identify the problem(s), we will make recommendations. We ask that faculty members who are experiencing problems or the supervisors of staff members who are experiencing problems contact us at 631-5037 to schedule an ergonomic assessment. Such “problems” may include discomforts in the fingers, elbow, shoulder, neck, or back, or numbness and tingling in the extremities, and eye strain or headaches believed to be related to one’s work station.
