Obtaining Credit in Physical Education
2007-2008

One year of Physical Education is a University requirement for graduation.  Since no exams are given, your grade of (S) Satisfactory or (U) Unsatisfactory is determined by the following:

1. Attitude and effort as determined by the instructor;
2. Performance, which should reach reasonable proficiency, as determined by the
    instructor;
3. Attendance at assigned class times;
4. Attendance the last class day of each semester, this is a MANDATORY NO
    CUT DAY;
5. Completion of assignments.

Classes - Unless otherwise specified classes will meet two (2) times per week at the site designated by your instructor. Students should dress in attire deemed appropriate by the instructor. Gym shoes worn for daily use may NOT be worn to indoor classes. A second pair of shoes for specified indoor/outdoor classes may be required. Students are required to complete two (2) semesters (six units) of Physical Education during their first year, with exceptions listed below. Please note the following important information:

1. Activities may not be repeated;
2. If a selected activity is deemed inappropriate for skill level another activity will
    be assigned;
3. All students will complete two units of the “Contemporary Topics for College
    Students” course during the academic year;
4. Varsity Athletes, as indicated by official team rosters, are required to complete
“Contemporary Topics for College Students.”  Non-swimmers must also complete the swimming requirement;
5. ROTC students are excluded from the Physical Education requirement. If a
    student withdraws during the first year, immediate enrollment in Physical
    Education is required.

Attendance - Class attendance is expected, missing class more than 3 times for any reason may result in a failing grade. Up to 3 absences are permitted per semester, for any reason - personal, medical, or university business (which includes varsity or club sports.)  THERE ARE NO EXCUSED ABSENCES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Should questions arise regarding class absences (or tardiness), they should be dealt with during the unit of occurrence. Upon starting a new unit, the instructor will inform students of their number of cuts. If a student feels an error has been made, he/she must settle the discrepancy within one week.

Leaving Class – If it is necessary to leave class early the student must notify the instructor. Leaving class without permission from the instructor may result in an “Unsatisfactory” grade for the semester.

Independent Study - Special situations do arise such as injury, hospitalization, or other inabilities to continue certain activities. Absences due to illness/injury will be handled by the Program Coordinator of the Independent Study Program. If the student qualifies, a personalized program will be structured to help facilitate the completion of the P.E. requirement.

Tardiness - If a student arrives late it is their responsibility to report it to instructor at the end of class. Three (3) lates will constitute an absence, as well as arriving at class more then (10) minutes late.
