Computer Cluster

The primary computing facilities at the Nuclear Science Lab are comprised of four Sun Blade 1000 workstations. Each is equipped with 512MB of memory, an 18GB hard drive, two 8mm tape drives and a 4mm (DAT) tape drive.

Faculty, postdocs and many students have computers or terminals in their offices from which they access the Sun computers. Each station has an additional external 50GB disk for temporary data storage. The University maintains a centrally-administered afs file system which all of the Nuclear Lab's Sun systems have access to. Each faculty, staff, or student has his or her own private file space on afs, plus the lab has it's own space on afs which all its members have access to. There are two Hewlett-Packard printers in the lab as well as a Xerox/Tektronix color printer.
