Sullivan Voted President-Elect
At its April meeting, the Alumni Board elected Robert
Sullivan Jr. '67 of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as president-elect of
the Alumni Association. Sullivan will assume the presidency on
July 1, 2004, at the end of his three-year term on the board as
regional director for Region 13 (Oklahoma and Texas). He is principal
of Sullivan and Company LLC, a 45-year-old family-owned independent
oil and gas exploration and production company operating in several
states.
Jean Collier '83 of Stratford, Connecticut, began her
one-year term as president of the Alumni Board on July 1.
Alumni Ticket Exchange
The Alumni Association has teamed with the Athletic Department
to offer an alumni ticket exchange. The ticket exchange will take
place on each of the six home football Saturdays at the Gate 3
Box Office of the Joyce Center, adjacent the Alumni Association
hospitality area. Beginning at 8 a.m. tickets may be left with
Alumni Association staff members on a consignment basis to be
resold at face value. From 8 to 10 a.m. tickets will be sold to
alumni only on a first-come, first-served basis. From 10 a.m.
until one-half hour prior to kickoff, tickets will be sold to
the general public.
Purchasers must show identification and sign a statement prohibiting
resale. The alumni ticket exchange is the only authorized program
of ticket resale other than the Stadium Ticket Office window sale
of tickets that have been returned by the visiting team the morning
of each home game.

Paul Geary '65 of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, has been
appointed to a two-year term on the Alumni Board in its newly
created position of senior alumni representative. Three international
directors have been appointed to three-year terms on the Alumni
Board. Currently serving are: Paul McGinn '84, Maynooth,
Ireland; R. Christopher Lund '61, Sao Paulo, Brazil;
and James Moynihan '71, Tokyo, Japan.

Alumni Awards
Major General James J. McMonagle '53 of Vista,
California, will receive the Rev. William Corby, CSC, Award at
halftime of the Navy football game on November 8. A surprise announcement
of the award was to be made at the June 6 Reunion '03 Flag Retreat
Ceremony, at which McMonagle was scheduled as a featured speaker.
McMonagle is a decorated combat leader who built on his experience
in Korea and Lebanon in major combat command positions with the
3rd Marines Division in Vietnam. He was awarded the Legion of
Merit with Combat V and a Gold Star. During his military career
he held key administrative responsibilities in a full range of
military staff positions and directed a variety of training and
development courses and programs. He was presented the Distinguished
Service Medal at the time of his retirement from the Marine Corps
in 1988, after 35 years of active service.
James J. Gillis '51 of Toluca Lake, California, will
be presented the Harvey G. Foster Award at halftime of the Washington
State football game on September 6 in honor of his dedication
to Notre Dame and his community. For more than 40 years, Gillis
has organized Notre Dame Club of Los Angeles programs and events.
Gillis received a baseball scholarship from Notre Dame and went
on to play semi-pro baseball, and one year of professional baseball
with the Philadelphia Phillies. He served two terms on the Notre
Dame Monogram Club board of directors Gillis is president and
owner of Gillis Broadcasting, Inc. A former FBI agent, Gillis
was encouraged toward that career by Harvey Foster '39J.D., also
an agent. Gillis worked for Harvey when re-assigned from Pittsburgh
to the Newark, New Jersey, office.
Alumni Tours
The autumn alumni travel agenda includes the following
tours: Rome and Assisi in Italy and Lourdes and Paris in France,
September 15-26; Civil War Virginia and Gettysburg, led by a professional
historian, October 5-12; Cuba, November 14-20; and the Amazon
Rainforest via an expedition ship, November 29-December 7 with
lectures by tour host Bob Schmuhl, Notre Dame professor of American
Studies, and an optional five-day Machu Picchu extension.
