Of Notre Dame's 13 previous Rhodes Scholars, two are deceased. The others:

Herman H. Hamilton '50: Retired; practiced law (primarily civil rights litigation) in Montgomery, Alabama for more than 40 years.

Donald C. Sniegowski '56: Emeritus faculty, Notre Dame English department.

Dennis Shaul '60: Director of the Family Business Center and visiting lecturer in management, Charlton College of Business, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Robert McNeill '63: Executive vice president, Stein Roe Investment Counsel.

John Gearen '65: Law partner and real estate lawyer, chairs nonprofit groups promoting study-abroad opportunities for U.S. college students and mentoring of African-American high school students in the Chicago area.

John P. Santos '79: Writer, television producer. Recently returned from Berlin, where he'd been working on a book and documentary.

Robert Vonderheide '85: Assistant professor of medicine in the hematology/oncology division of the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

Teresa Doering-Lewis '86: Advisory editor of The Hudson Review.

Gregory Abowd '86: Professor, Georgia Tech College of Computing.

Eva Rzepniewski '97: Completing doctorate at Oxford.

Eugenio Fernandez '97: Consultant, McKinsey & Comany, Chicago.
