Notre Dame joined 37 private colleges and universities in a legal
brief supporting the University of Michigan's affirmative action
policies.
The polices, opposed by President Bush, were being challenged
in a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Said Father Malloy: "At Notre Dame we believe it is imperative
that our incoming classes reflect, as much as possible, the diversity
of our nation, and we feel that our mix of students from all over
the U.S. and the world adds to the educational experience."
