by John Kryk (Taylor Trade)
The two teams first played in 1887, but from then until 1978 they
only played 11 times. This well-researched sports history pays
particular attention to the schools' off-field feuds in the early
20th century, when ND coach Knute Rockne and Michigan coach Fielding
Yost were bitter adversaries. The author uses magazines, newspapers
and original letters of the time to bring authentic detail to
the re-creation of that era. He continues through NDs Lou Holtz
era, when the games often went down to the wire.
Kryk works at the Toronto Sun.
