A
gritty narrative unfolding the events of the siege of Wake Island
in 1941. The outnumbered U.S. Marines and other American military
personnel stationed on the tiny atoll in the Pacific were joined
by Wake island civilians in defending the island that Japan wanted
as part of its plan for naval domination in the Pacific.
The author, a military historian, continues the story by following
captured U.S. servicemen through their prisoner of war experiences
and their eventual homecoming. The book contains 16 pages of photos.
