Checkback: The ACE program judgment

What's the status of the judgment that declared government financial support of the Alliance for Catholic Education program unconstitutional on the grounds of separation of state and religion?

At the end of August the federal district court judge who ruled against the program entered a stay of her own ruling while AmeriCorps and ACE administrators appeal. Oral arguments before an appellate court were scheduled for January 14, 2005.

The program continues to operate as normal during the appeals process. Ultimately only future participants in the program will be affected by the final ruling.
