Notre Dame among most wired campuses

Yahoo! Internet Life magazine's 1998 list of America's 100 Most Wired Colleges lists Notre Dame 31st with the comment, "There are 8,000 ports for 7,500 students, so users can get on-line from literally anywhere."

ND has more ports than undergraduate students because the ResNet campus network not only provides one personal networking jack for each student in his or her dorm room, but there are hundreds of ports for students to plug their laptops into in places like the Huddle and the second floor of the library. Notre Dame also offers 830 open-access, Internet-ready computers in 11 computing clusters throughout campus.

Yahoo! Intenet Life also cited the University for supporting and providing Internet training to students and faculty, on-line class material, default e-mail accounts, computer laboratories, and a high percentage of student home pages.
