Sarah Taylor, a 1999 Notre Dame graduate from Sugar Land,
Texas, made the second team of USA Today's All-USA College Academic Team,
which recognizes students who have gone beyond earning high grades to produce an
intellectual product such as research findings. Taylor studied the effects of acetaminophen (the primary ingredient in Tylenol) on the livers of mice -- research that related to her interest in a career in neonatology. She presented her findings at a meeting of the Society of Pediatrics Research in May 1999 in San Francisco. Taylor graduated in 1999 with a double major in biology and psychology and went on to the Baylor College of Medicine. Almost 1,000 undergraduates were nominated for the 1999 All-USA Academic Team. In addition to grades and intellectual production, candidates must demonstrate leadership, public service and involvement in extracurricular activities. There were 20 first-team honorees, an equal number on each of the second and third teams, and a small number receiving honorable mention. |
