The graduate students in the Medieval Institute constitute a
congenial scholarly community, one that is animated by the interdisciplinary
demands of the program and enhanced by the Medieval Institute's
facilities that foster easy and frequent intellectual exchanges
among students. The limited size and selective character of our
program allow for enriching seminar experiences and ready access
to a broad range of faculty medievalists who are eager to mentor
graduate students.
The Medieval Institute attracts graduate
students from leading undergraduate programs all across the U.S.
and Canada because of its breadth of disciplines and depth of
course listings. The Institute's interdisciplinary program permits
students to fashion programs that effectively blend their personal
and professional needs, and every year Institute students compete
successfully for major national and international fellowships
and scholarships. The Institute Ph.D.'s have thus ranked consistently
among the Notre Dame Graduate School's most competitive and successful
applicants for tenure track positions at major colleges and universities
in North America.
