Phedre caused her husband, the King, to be wrongly jealous of his son and prayed to Neptune to destroy him. When Hipployte was in fact killed after fighting a sea monster, Phedre killed herself in remorse.

A woman with a German mother and a Nigerian father grew up in the former DDR in the 1960s and 1970s. In this video she tells of her life and experiences. Reading aloud from her girlhood diary helps her focus on special events and important memories. She gives the viewer a different perspective on Berlin before and after the Wall went down. The combination of viewpoints on the DDR and on being "different" in Germany makes this a facinating portrait.

In a grim, pessimistic reworking of the Pygmalion tale, its wild man is transformed by "civilized" society into a gentleman, even though Kaspar faces the threat of betrayal by the very forces that sought to "rescue" him. Minna has followed her beloved Tellheim and she now cunningly manages to elicit a new declaration of love from him. Because he is so bent on his sense of honor she keeps him in suspense for quite a while before telling him that he has been rehabilitated by the King. Minna and Tellheim become a happy couple and Franziska, too, finds the love of her life - Werner, a sergeant.

By replacing the fixed point of view of traditional art with motion and speed Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, Carlo Carrà, and Gino Severini--the painters featured in this video and the leaders of Futurism--emerged to the forefront of the international art scene from the stale and conservative cultural atmosphere of Italy before World War I. The least known and the most extreme of all the twentieth-century Avant-Gardes, the Futurists developed many concepts and artistic principles--such as simultaneity, conceptualism, plasticity, and others--present throughout the century from Dada to Pop-Art, that made modern art such an exciting and striking phenomenon.
