We are aware of many of the problems with our current catalogue system, and a new system is in development. Until the new system is ready for use, I hope that the information below is useful to you.
Problems logging in.
When you log in to the catalogue system you should see a 'Welcome, Jane Domer' message, and two menu options should appear in the links list on the left of the screen.

Some students using Internet Explorer have reported problems where they have successfully logged in, but are not able to see the Items I Have Out and Requested Items links.
We are working to find a reliable solution to this problem, but as a short term fix, please log into the catalogue using one of the computers in the classroom building, or using a different web browser, for example, Firefox.
Problems with search results.
There are several known problems with the catalogue search, which will be resolved in the new system. Work arounds fo the most common include:
Searching for authors or titles which contain an apostraphe, ie qur'an or o'duffy returns no results.
- either search for the first part of the word, followed by a * (qur*) or re-phrase your search to avoid the problematic word (search by title rather than author, for example).
Searching for common search terms does not return all the items held by the LUP Library
- Searching for common words such as 'History' can cause the current system to time out part way through the results list, only giving you the first 50 or 100 records.
Try limiting your search by type if you are looking for non-book items, or searching on author, or less-common words in the title or subject.
Subject headings
- The Library of Congress subject headings which we use are not always instinctive. For example, the correct headings for history books dealing with the English Civil War do not contain the word 'English', so searching for Subject> English Civil War finds no records.
Once you have located one book on your chosen subject (perhaps by searching on the shorter 'cvil war', or by title, or from an author on your bibliography), you can click on the subject headings in that items catalogue record to find other items on the same subject.
