"How Students Can Shape Politics, Government, and History"

Friday, September 8, 2006
11:00 a.m. to noon
Location: Auditorium / Hesburgh Center for International Studies

In an enlightening and entertaining presentation, Mark Shields (ND ’59) shares first-hand accounts and impressions of the current state of Washington politics and presents them against the backdrop of political history. With a career spanning eight presidents, Mark Shields is one of the most respected analysts in Washington, a pundit whose experience and encyclopedic knowledge of politics combine for one of the most trusted bylines in journalism. A syndicated columnist for more than 25 years, he has been deemed “A Walking Almanac of American Politics” by The Washington Post. A former campaign manager, he reveals the little-known details of American politics, delivers a frontline perspective and clarifies for audiences the confusing political mayhem that often arises out of election-year politics.
Sponsored by: The Washington Program, Department of Political Science, Department of Sociology, and Department of American Studies, the John W. Gallivan Program in Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy, the Hesburgh Program in Public Service, and the Program in American Democracy.
