*Symposium: "Appraising of Puerto Rican, Latino/a and Hispanic-Caribbean Art" will be held in New York on May 20–21, a collaboration of IUPLR, the Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños at Hunter College, the Inter-University Program for Latino Research, and the Appraisers Association of America

* Working Group on Latina Spirituality is established in March
* IUPLR/SI Rockefeller Fellowships—Humanities Fellowships in Latino Cultural Research in a National Museum Context: Issues of Representation and Interpretation in Latino Cultural Studies awarded to Anne Marie Stock, PhD; Nilda Villalta, PhD; Karin Weyland, PhD; Enrique LaMadrid, PhD; and Ramón Gutiérrez, PhD. The fellowships were held at the Center for Folklife and Cultural Studies and at the National Museum of Natural History.

The fellowships are held at the National Museum of American Art and Archives of American Art.
