TRAVEL INFORMATION

DIRECTIONS TO O'CONNELL HOUSE
To get from the airport to O’Connell House (58 Merrion Square South): Take the Aircoach (blue shuttle bus, located just outside Arrivals Hall to the left as you exit the building) to Merrion Square. Be sure to ask the person selling the Aircoach tickets (€7 single, €12 return) for the bus going to Merrion Square. You will get off the bus at the northwest end of Merrion Square. O’Connell House is located on the opposite end. Cross the street so you are walking alongside Merrion Square (an enclosed park). At the traffic lights (you will backtrack slightly after getting off the bus, the American College and the Mont Clare Hotel are at the intersection to give you reference points). Take a left at the lights and walk up the street, you will pass the National Gallery (Ireland’s art gallery) on your right hand side. When you reach the end of the square (you will essentially be walking around Merrion Square), take a left and walk down until you reach No. 58 – O’Connell House. To gain entry, press the top buzzer button on the righthand side of the door. Please note opening hours are 10am-5pm Monday-Friday (when term is in session O’Connell House is open later on certain days).

There are two locations for accommodation offered to our participants this year. Both are within easy walking distance of Merrion Square, where the Seminar is being held.

1. No. 2 Harcourt Terrace, Off Adelaide Road, Dublin 2.

2. Mercer Court, which is on Mercer Street, Dublin 2.

If you have not visited Dublin or Ireland before, one option is to take/share a taxi directly to Mercer Court or Harcourt Terrace with a fellow Irish Seminar participant. The cost of the taxi will be approximately €35 from the airport so sharing is a really good idea.

If you want to travel into the city centre yourself, it is perfectly simple to do so also, these are the directions for getting from the airport to Harcourt terrace and then from the airport toi Mercer Court. In addition, I have included walking directions fro getting to and from your accommodation to the IRISH SEMINAR 2007!

Remember if you get lost call: 01 611 0611 - We are here to help.

DIRECTIONS TO HARCOURT TERRACE, OFF ADELAIDE ROAD, DUBLIN 2
From Dublin Airport

Exit the customs through the Nothing to Declare  - Green channel.
Go directly to a Bureau de Change bureau (if you do not have any euros (our currency) and change some cash into euros...You will probably need about €50 for getting yourself sorted out over the first day or so).

This is located just outside Arrivals Hall to the left as you exit the building MAKE SURE YOU GET THE BUS THAT IS GOING TO: Airport to Leopardstown.

Buy a return ticket for the AIRCOACH from the driver (about €12) or just as you get onto the bus, and make sure to tell him/her that this is your first visit to Dublin in 4 years and that you want to get off the coach at Kildare Street.

Disembark on Kildare Street, proceed to top of road and at T-junction cross the street and proceed through St. Stephens’ Green Park. Keep to the left side of the Green since you want to exit at the junction of Earlsfort Terrace and Leeson Street. Exit the Green and cross straight over into Earlsfort Terrace and pass the National Concert Hall (on your right).  Proceed to top of that road - straight through the cross street of Hatch Street (left) and Park Place (right) until you come to another T-junction.  Make a right at top of street, onto Adelaide Road and pick up keys from either Julie or Leon at Kilronan House (a guest house about two doors down) on same side of street. Ask them to either bring you over or to point your house out to you, with your back to the door of the guesthouse, you will see just across the street, No. 2 Harcourt Terrace - a beautiful detached old period house right on the corner of the next street, or alternatively, a very fine self contained apartment on the opposite corner,

Sometimes, if you are really tired from the long journey, your best option is to take/share a taxi directly to Harcourt Terrace, Dublin 2, with a fellow Irish Seminar participant. The cost of the taxi will be approximately €40 from the airport so sharing is a really good idea.
