Title: Decay of Correlations and Liapunov Exponents
Abstract:
Pierre Collet and I get asked periodically whether decay of correlation
functions and Liapunov exponents of chaotic systems are related. In this
talk, I will summarize our findings, which show that the question is difficult.
In particular, these difficulties are not due to esoteric examples, but
rather a generic property of high-dimensional dynamical systems. This
will be illustrated by several simple examples.
